Florilegium Ornamentum

“Not too pretentious,
but preferably unforgettable.”
- Tage Andersen

In spring 2025, Tage Andersen hosted the exhibition Florilegium Ornamentum, presenting 41 pairs of flora-inspired earrings created by some of Denmark’s finest goldsmiths and jewellery designers.

From 1 February to 30 March 2025, 41 of the country’s leading designers entered Tage Andersen’s poetic and wondrous universe. Each jeweller contributed a pair of earrings - most of them unique pieces made especially for the exhibition. Every jewel took its inspiration from a flower, plant or fruit, whose varied forms and cultural histories became sources of artistic interpretation.

The exhibition was arranged according to the idea of the Renaissance florilegium - flower books that, 500 years ago, served as illustrations of plants cultivated not for practical purposes such as medicine, gastronomy or perfume, but for their sheer decorative beauty. A florilegium is organised around the flowering season of plants, with beauty itself as the focus. The Latin word ornamentum means “jewellery,” and together Florilegium Ornamentum formed a collection of exquisite floral jewels.

“Flowers and earrings accompany us through life, from spring to winter - and we wear them. It felt entirely fitting to open spring 2025 with a tribute to one of the motifs that inspires so many goldsmiths and jewellery designers: flowers. The richness of form in flora provides infinite variety, and the participating artists rose to the challenge with great brilliance,” said exhibition organiser and curator Nina Hald.
